That’s the worst. Sorry that happened. Unfortunately it’s very common.Hayygirlll wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2023 4:24 am I see lame horses at every single show I go to. Recently looked at a lease horse that CLEARLY had dsld. Owner was appalled that I didn’t let my rider try it out. Yeah, I’m not putting someone’s life at risk- owner should be thanking me as the client is an atty. I know the horse, that kept shifting weight every 15 seconds from one hind to another was thanking me. The daily prevacox wasn’t helping this poor horse at all. Owner is completely in the dark about how bad it is. Kept bringing up wind puffs. Baby, this is far worse than some wind puffs.. Straight stifles, straight hocks and a concave fetlock area in addition to dropped fetlocks…….I feel bad for the horse. Not to mention the owner was double dipping into the lease. Unreal.

Shouldn't the show stewards address the owners showing lame horses?
Re: Lame horse for sale
It's not the steward's job, look to your judges. If the steward sees one that is super lame, they can call the show vet and have them take a look. But, what happens in the show ring is on the judge.

Stewards hands are tied. USEF will not back them up in any way for any issue.
There are some stewards who just plainly don’t have any idea of their job are actually make up charges unbeknownst to the person being charged. I’ve known of a steward forcing a judge to change results because she thought he was wrong in his placing.
It’s a shame stewards can’t steward any more and are hamstrung in their comments to exhibitors.

Hamstrung to show management is more like it

You are correct. I’ve had show management ask me to not send pictures and vet statement of a horse with mouth and sides bleeding. Also to throw away a measurement that a trainer didn’t like.
Why I’m not a steward now.
Re: Lame horse for sale
I bought many "lame" horses cuz they were cheap and trained - and fixed every one of them up and have been more successful with a lot of them that with some of the "sound" once I have purchased for a lot more. A good brain is worth a try. And ya have to ride well enough or have a second horse to practice on sometimes to save the schoolmasters for showing.
