Why can’t people pay their bills

Post by Giddyup »

Why do so many trainers have money problems? Like, you charge $5k/month per horse yet bounce checks left and right. And still have clients! Do people not care? How do all these criminals still have people who worship them and think they’re gods gift?! It’s sickening.

Because they're horrible with money to being with when you now add the fact that everything cost a lot more to the pile, they're really screwed. I know of year-round trainers in Wellington who have to operate on a cash-in-hand basis for large purchases that exceed their debit card daily amount because they've bounced checks. It's all a facade. Why do clients continue dealing with it? How do we overhaul the whole show business is the question we need to answer first I guess. And they're not gods. You seriously have to ask yourself 'Okay. Who is least likely to fuck me over and what do I have to watch for when they try?' and it fucking sucks.

The hunter/jumper scene needs a governing body that over sees fraud. I’ve had a trainer buy a horse from me and sign a contract. The money was due over a year and a half ago and he has not paid. The reason he doesn’t want to pay me was after six months of owning a horse it got injured and is on the mend. That’s not my fault. That’s the risk you take when you buy Horses. He should’ve had it insured. I mentioned getting a lawyer and all of his clients and friends so why would you do that to him he’s such a wonderful person and work so hard. WTF

I would like to report this trainer to the USEF, they should be not eligible to show when they clearly committed a breach of contract and owes thousands of dollars.

The guy is waiting for you to say pay me or send the horse back. Get strong here and go after him for the money. The industry is full of unethical people so go for it and demand your money back. If this is a business for you then treat it like a business.

Not that it excuses his actions: but the hell did you let it get to six months for? I'd even be asking this question at six weeks.

At this point, there's lots of people who don't let the horse leave their premises until the cheque has cleared, fuck "trials." Can't say I blame them.

Bring back the "Wall of Shame"- Word of mouth is a good place to begin. Unfortunately the USEF can't act as lawyer re: fraud per se, however some organizations, such as AQHA I believe, do offer recourse in some of the situations described above. They can ban you from getting points with them, for the most part. I don't believe in making payments on horse deals, for the most part. If the buyer doesnt have good enough credit to borrow, then why take the risk? Some are desperate to "unload" the horse from their books and allow drastic measures I think?

The clients following along blindly when presented with information that their trainer is not in fact ethical, or in fact owe several people tens of thousands of dollars, and you go after them for it, you end up being the bad guy! It’s truly unbelievable.
